GD 60 Comfort Colors [PREORDER]

$40.00 - $42.00

Hi Friends. @DarkStarAtlas and I are headed to San Francisco in a few weeks for GD60. When we were planning our tribute to the occasion, the main theme I kept coming back to was the sheer volume of people that were involved in creating the musical universe of the Dead. I decided to focus on how the band evolved and changed throughout the years by creating a frame out of the members’ names along with years they toured with the band. Those of you who’ve read my zines know how important the lyrics that Hunter and Barlow wrote are to my own experiences with this music. Well-read-heads may also note that in his book Kreutzmann didn’t technically consider Lagin, who played on a number of studio recordings between 1970-1975 and sat in on a portion of the ‘74 tour when he was collaborating with Phil on the Seastones project, or Hornsby, who played in over a hundred shows after Brent’s passing to be “members” of the band, but I felt they deserved inclusion for partially shaping those eras of the Dead. The fifteen small diamonds incorporated into the border of the design symbolize this core group of people who created the legacy that heads are still celebrating sixty years on. I also wanted to recognize the crew who made it possible for fans to experience 2,300+ live shows. Since the Grateful Dead Movie is headed back to theaters next month, I decided to include the crew members who were credited in the film; this is, of course, an incomplete list.

The other major theme I wanted to focus on for this design was the passage of time. I asked @DarkStarAtlas to draw an hourglass that vaguely resembled a Stealie for the front and a “fire wheel burning in the air” for the back. She worked super hard to create these by hand and I’m thrilled with how they came out.

We chose Ocean Color-Blasted Comfort Colors to evoke the foggy San Francisco bay. These feature a unique dye process so no two shirts will be the same. Two color front (indigo & white) and back (indigo & crimson) prints. I’m happy to be working with @otherindustries on these again. Our goal is to have these in your hands by the end of July. See you on the polo grounds.

[NOTE: THIS IS A PREORDER. THESE SHIRTS ARE LIKELY ONLY BEING SOLD ONLINE. EXPECTED DELIVERY IS THE FINAL WEEK OF JULY]
